Welcome Message

In concurrent with the Paris Agreement which highly focuses on strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change, the International Environmental Research Institute (IERI) of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) has been organizing an annual workshop called the International Forum on Climate Adaptation (IFOCA) since 2016. The long-term goal of the Paris Agreement is to keep the increase in global average temperature to well below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels; and to limit the increase to 1.5 °C, since this would substantially reduce the risks and effects of climate change. Henceforth, many efforts dealing with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance have been conducted and still ongoing to aid in the achievement of the Paris Agreement.

Therefore, we are inviting you to the 2019 IFOCA which will be held from 7-8th October 2019 at Maison GLAD Jeju Hotel, Jeju Island, Korea. The forum deliberations would be on the theme "Showcasing the latest climate resilience solutions and identifying priority actions for regional collaboration". The 2019 IFOCA will be jointly hosted by IERI at GIST and the Green Technology Center (GTC) in Korea, in collaboration with the East Asia and Pacific Regional Office of United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF EAPRO), the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP) and the International Climate & Environment Center (ICEC).

Through 2019 IFOCA, we will expect to gain a great perspective and opinions from the participants for better direct climate change efforts. Also, we are hoping that through this unique networking platform between researchers, policymakers, and government-related institutes in East and Southeast Asia countries, we can gain greater insight into the challenges and future directions needed to conduct effective carbon mitigation policies and activities.

We believe that your endowment to this forum will be very beneficial and we look forward to seeing you in Jeju Island, Korea.
